Reason 4: Los Angeles As A Character
One of the main reasons why I wanted to make this film was because for the last six to seven years, I’ve grown to appreciate the diversity of Los Angeles and the hidden aspects of it. It’s a city that has a lot of hidden areas spread out, less like New York where you have the intensity of New York in a confined space. There’s a lot to be said about that. But LA is flat, so you really have to dig deep to get into it. This story and this script allowed me to do that. It’s a journey that starts up in the West Coast and goes through the Pacific, the gambler’s house, and it takes us into the city at the Korean gambling underworld and there’s a lot of color and diversity to that story and journey. I was thinking of it as that as anything else.
