The Fourth of July is just three days away, but overnight Hollywood actress Melissa McCarthy is delivering the fireworks this Wednesday (July 2) with her latest flick, Tammy.
Last night, SOHH/getFRUSH cashed-in on an exclusive screening invite to check out the new Tammy movie at New York’s Lincoln Theater in Manhattan. With a track record which already consists of flicks like Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and The Heat, Melissa McCarthy has raised the stakes and expectations with her newest big screen release.
As you have come to expect, Melissa has turned into the plump, comical actress we all have come to see as a version of the modern day Chris Farley. Written by herself and husband Ben Falcone, who makes a notable appearance, Tammy takes place in present day and paints her as an unstable, but heartfelt, character living a less-than-exciting life working as a fast food restaurant employee who receives a pink slip on the same day she hits an animal (which wrecks her car) and catches her husband cheating.
Don’t be fooled by the flick’s trailers, however, as the movie is more along the lines of a reverse “Bad Grandpa” with Tammy taking a life lesson-type road trip across the country with her grandma, played by renowned actress Susan Sarandon.
With this story-telling setting, you get to witness a ton of quirky and funny moments ranging from Tammy having a wild jet ski ride to watching grandma get more-than-kinky with another man at a local bar.
The movie does a great job of keeping you waiting for the next laugh, however, you may find yourself dozing off for a few moments when the “serious” scenes emerge and McCarthy tries to juggle her typical unexpected antics with the typical family moments we’ve all seen before.
But a few of those moments aside, Melissa has added another hilarious flick to her résumé that arrives just in time for the Fourth of July festivities.
